Jones Construction will fix your house like it was their house. . . .         ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

"If you are looking for a licensed general contractor for your home repair or remodeling, you have found them. What began for us, as a simple kitchen countertop and sink replacement, ended up a major structural rebuild of half of one side of our brick home. Termites had obliterated the wood framing behind the cabinets and drywall.

Rigsby Jones gave us a fair bid. He understood the severity of our problem, giving us a bid the morning after seeing our home. They fit us in ASAP. Through their diligence they found even more termite damage than anyone thought possible. He rearranged his calendar to address our serious problem. Rigsby and his crew also found a plumbing problem and a masonry problem done by our original home builder. He helped us with sub-contractors who could correct the problems that added to our original dilemma.

The Jones Construction crew came every morning at 8:30, laid out cloths to protect our floors, and minimized sheet rock dust and other debris by vacuuming while cutting. They took one half hour for lunch, came back and worked to the end of the day, every day. They cleaned up after themselves every day. They were kind, helpful, optimistic and very, very smart. Jones Construction will fix your house like it was their house. They will make it better than it was before. The man who comes to your home to bid the job is the man who comes to do the job. That is important to know.

Also, the window replacement company and the stone counter installation crew were both astounded and impressed with the accuracy of Jones Construction's work. The window rep said he couldn’t believe the window openings were true to his previous measurements. The counter installation crew couldn’t believe that the corner of the two walls Jones Construction rebuilt were exactly 90 degrees where the corners met. It made their installation a breeze.

"In 2008, we made a 2 story addition to our home, more than doubling its size. By 2016, it was in a state of total collapse.   Wooden subfloor joists and beams in the crawlspace had completely rotted due to water intrusion and poor ventilation, leaving them unable to support the floor system. My house was literally falling down. Larry Cerro, Tallahassee’s most experienced private home inspector, declared the damage the worst of its kind he had seen in his 40 years of inspections.  

The repair task was formidable. 2000 square feet of oak floor and tile in 6 rooms would have to be ripped out and replaced. But the real challenge was that the walls would have to be suspended without a subfloor system to support them. It was an amazing feat.  When another contractor saw all the damage, he just shook his head and said “It can’t be done. You’ve gotta tear the whole addition down and start all over again.” My insurance company had refused to cover the damage. This was a disaster.

Then Rigsby and Brad Jones showed up. From the moment they walked in the door, they began ticking off the stages of the job as if he were reciting from memory. They assured me there was no need to bulldoze my home. Finally. I had a crew that was experienced, competent and confident.

And the proof was in their performance. These guys are true craftsmen. The take pride in their work and their reputation. They are organized, professional, efficient, courteous, compassionate, sociable and, most of all, honest. From beginning to end, there were absolutely none of the typical contractor delays. Plumbers, electricians, tile and floor guys and other subs were scheduled tightly, as was the building inspector. Not a minute was wasted. Eight weeks later, through the worst summer heat and a hurricane, my home was turnkey ready, structurally sturdier and more aesthetically pleasing than it had ever been.   What they accomplished in so short a period was truly astounding. And equally impressive, every subcontractor they engaged—and the building inspector-- each made a point to tell me that Rigsby Jones is “the best in the business”, “you can’t do better”, “these guys are the real deal”…..

"When it came time to do some major renovations on my 40-plus-year-old house, I realized I needed a contractor. I had observed Rigsby for years working with the 4-year-olds on Sunday mornings at my church and 'knew' that was the kind of man I wanted to give my business to, and he did not disappoint.

After negotiating all the details, we decided to focus on renovating the master bath first. The challenge was to make the most of every inch of this too small, 1970s bathroom. Rigsby suggested some improvements I hadn’t thought of and I agreed the bathroom needed to be taken 'back to the studs.'

"In 1995, my wife Kim-pregnant with our son Dawson-and I decided that we needed an addition to our house. The "addition" was going to be twice the size of the original, with a somewhat "funky" structure. "The work we needed in our kitchen and other areas of our home was by necessity, not choice. (A sink hole developed in the backyard causing the slab to shift and crack or loosen most of the tiles in the home.) "Twelve years ago, my wife and I hired Rigsby Jones, on the advice of a friend, to renovate our newly purchased single-family house built in 1940. The house had been standing empty for a year, and needed some serious maintenance, updating, and expansion, including a new roof, HVAC, and plumbing, removing interior walls, and refinishing all surfaces inside and out. Mr. Jones drew a plan based on several conversations with us and some design options sketched up by an architect friend, and we shook hands with 'Rigs' and hoped for the best. The next day, he showed up on time with several colorful but seemingly honest characters who were also crack carpenters, and off to the races we went.

The man is brilliant, honest as the day is long, works like a draft horse, and although he can charm the birds out of the trees, he also knows Tallahassee and the construction trades. He knows how old houses are built, and nothing surprises him. He and his carpenters worked for months while we paid the bills, tore nails out of ancient yellow pine studs in freezing weather, and watched our charming old house that had been long neglected slowly come back to life. At worst, it was not a nightmare. At best, it was exciting and a pure delight to watch him and his loyal crew work hard and solve the countless issues and problems involved with renovating an old house.

In the end, we ended up with a solid, tasteful renovation that, although it seemed expensive at the time, has proved to be a solid investment and an excellent place to raise a wonderful child and pass the time of our lives in.

Rigs and Dan have come back several times to replace old doors and windows, seal unknown openings, and to provide advice on how to keep an old house alive and well in a time when craftsmen are rare and precious. We have complete confidence in Rigs and we would recommend him to anyone who has an eye and a taste for quality and craftsmanship, and who might also enjoy a long but good chat with an engaging character who is a slice of real Tallahassee."
